Defense

Paper sculpture in the landscape, photo series, 2017

The erection of a cordon of anti-tank hedgehogs is, in practical terms, the most effective way to repel the onset of heavy military equipment. In a symbolic sense, it is a desire to defend oneself from the intrusion of the war into the life of an individual, family, or country. The war is not limited to the zones of military operations, and even being from it in hundreds, thousands of kilometers, we feel its painful closeness, the pressure of the air poisoned by it. War penetrates into everyday conversations, into thoughts and dreams, into relationships and work, into the soul, gradually becomes their integral part. We try to protect our microcosm from the war virus, but all our attempts to defend ourselves against it are just as naive and ephemeral as anti-tank hedgehogs made of paper under the caterpillars of armored vehicles.
